At the end of the eighties, Cees Nooteboom settled in Berlin, on the eve of the historic revolution that heralded the reunification of West and East Germany. Events never thought possible exploded with unprecedented speed. It was a time when everyone suddenly felt that they had become a little more important because no one could keep up with all that happened.
