The 4,000 km border between India and Bangladesh is guarded by more than 200,000 border guards and is marked by several walls, fences and barbed wire. India built these barricades from 1993 onwards to keep smugglers and poor migrants from Bangladesh out of their country, although the guarded border does not continue completely. Every now and then there are big holes in the barricades.
