North and South Korea are not divided by a wall, but maintain a militarized buffer zone of 4 kilometers wide and 250 kilometers long along the border between the two countries. This zone was built with the agreement of both countries in 1953 after the Korean War. Thousands of soldiers guard the border on both sides of the zone.
