Südwestkirchhof Stahnsdorf
This amazing cemetery is one of the largest cemeteries in Europe. It is positioned just outside Berlin and was opened in 1909, as a relief to the huge shortage of burial-grounds in Berlin’s inner-city.
For years even a train that was coming from the Wannsee drove directly to the gates of the cemetery. During the Cold War, the tracks were dismantled during, because they led from Eastern part of Germany into the West. During the same period, the cemetery was seriously in disrepair, its paths became heavily overgrown and the monuments and tombs were left to crumble.
Many of the graves are still barely visible between the trees, with gives an uncomfortable, strange feeling.
The chapel on the cemetery, as well as much of the surrounding paths and forest grounds were the sight where the popular Netflix series DARK were shot.
