Christiane Vera Felscherinow – or simply Christiane F. – was a 12 years old girl living in the suburbs of Berlin when decided to smoke her first cigarette. Soon, other substances followed, such as alcohol and marijuana, and later she tried harder ones like hash, LSD and pills. At 13, she became addicted to heroin, and then started to sell her body to maintain her vice. From there on, what succeeded was the decay of the girl, among check ins and check outs at rehab clinics, and the deaths of her closest friends, one by one.
In February of 1978, Christiane F. (15 years old at the time) was invited by journalists Kai Hermann and Horst Rieck to give some interviews about her story with drugs and prostitution. The result, a moving account, became a best-seller in more than 30 countries and was translated to 15 different languages. In addition, a movie based on the story was released in 1981, featuring David Bowie as one of the characters.
